Counselling, Psychotherapy, Supervision and Training
If you've found your way to this site, then it could be because you're in need; in need of support, direction or just a way of making sense of a current confusion in your life. The speed and pressure of modern living throws up challenges for us all so it is not surprising that there are high levels of stress-related illness, depression and relationship difficulties.
The recent recession has added to these pre-existing stressors, bringing fears around job security and future financial security. These issues can put extra pressure on relationships, especially if they've been a little rocky. It's at these times that we can feel at our most powerless; we hope for things to change, that someone else will make the decisions for us, or maybe reach out for something to help take away the difficult feelings (effectively anaesthetising ourselves against the pain of the feelings) by using alcohol, recreational drugs, under or over-eating, spending and other potentially harmful behaviours.
There is another way; to engage in a process which will help you acknowledge your problem, locate its source and give you the resources and power to make appropriate changes in your life. Working together with a counsellor in a safe therapeutic environment can give you the opportunity to make these changes.
Couples therapy can be particularly effective in identifying blocks in communication and defence mechanisms which are often the stumbling blocks to any shifts in development whether as a couple or individually.

If you feel after reading my website that my approach may not fit the bill, you could refer to my resources page for other options for locating relationship counselling and psychotherapy in the Newark, Mansfield and Nottingham area. However, you could also contact me by phone for an initial talk on the phone to clarify your options at which time I could 'signpost' you to other services.
