Counselling, Psychotherapy, Supervision and Training

If you've found your way to this site, then it could be because you're in need; in need of support, direction or just a way of making sense of a current confusion in your life. The speed and pressure of modern living throws up challenges for us all so it is not surprising that there are high levels of stress-related illness, depression and relationship difficulties.
Library Image: Reaching HandsThe recent recession has, for many people, added to pre-existing stressors, by increasing anxieties around job and ultimately financial security. These issues can put extra pressure on relationships and families too, especially if they've been a little rocky.

It's at these times that we can feel at our most powerless; we hope for things to change, that maybe someone else will make the decisions for us, or even reach out for something to help take away or deaden the difficult feelings that seem to overwhelm us.

There is another way; to engage in a process which will help you explore your problems, give you a greater understanding and awareness of yourself and ultimately, the resources and power to make appropriate changes in your life. Working together with a counsellor in a safe therapeutic environment can give you the opportunity to make these changes toward a more comfortable and fulfilling life.

Couples therapy can be particularly effective in identifying blocks in communication and defence mechanisms which are often the stumbling blocks to any shifts in development whether as a couple or individually.

My name is Judith Hodge and I have been a practising counsellor/psychotherapist in Southwell (near Newark, Mansfield and Nottingham) for the past 24 years. I offer individual counselling/psychotherapy, couple and relationship counselling as well as Supervision and Training in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment. I am fully insured, supervised and Accredited by BACP.

I work with both individuals and couples on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, to the client's specified agenda. Having accumulated 24 years of clinical experience (13 years of which were within the NHS in both Primary Care and Staff Counselling and 6 years with RELATE as well as private practice) I have worked with many different areas of difficulty. These include,(but equally do not exclude other issues):

  • Relationships
  • Affairs
  • Bereavement and Loss
  • Work stress
  • Sexual abuse
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Low self esteem
  • ME
  • Male anxiety and depression
My counselling and supervision practice is in Southwell within easy reach of the out-lying villages of Farnsfield, Kirklington, Bleasby, Thurgarton, Halam, Oxton and the towns of Newark, Mansfield and Lincoln. Clients from Nottingham seeking relationship counselling sometimes find the journey from the city to Southwell offers an invaluable reflection space both before and after sessions.

If you feel after reading my website that my approach may not fit the bill, you could refer to my resources page for other options for locating relationship counselling and psychotherapy in the Newark, Mansfield and Nottingham area. However, you could also contact me by phone for an initial talk on the phone to clarify your options at which time I could 'signpost' you to other services.
